This dates back to the formation of the company in July 1992. I needed a company to use for my first software development contract and rather than settling for an off-the shelf pre-named company (the company formation landscape was a little more cumbersome back then) I wanted a name of my own making. One of the “big things” in the software development world was a technique known as “object orientation” and already having a lot of experience with the concept I wanted that reflected in the company name. I came up with Object Oriented Software Engineering Ltd but OOSE Ltd wasn’t a great look! My first thought was Great Object Oriented Software Engineering Ltd which gave me GOOSE Ltd, but I wasn’t really big on geese. I liked moose though, so how to get the M? I went with the first thing that came into my head and Moonrise Object Oriented Software Engineering Ltd. it was. It was both a mouthful and a keyboardfull but I liked it and used MOOSE as a trading name.
I changed the company name to Moonrise Media Ltd in 2015 – to coincide with the release of my first (and only) BluRay/DVD #hArtFilm – but it was only in late 2022 whilst listening to Planet Rock one morning that it suddenly hit me WHY “Moonrise” was the first M word that came into my head back in 1992.
The first line in the second verse of the song Fly By Night, by the best band ever – Rush – is;
Moonrise, thoughtful eyes
As Geddy Lee’s falsetto enunciated the two syllables of moonrise as separate words I was smacked in the face by a realisation that had been staring me in the ears for all of thirty years and I’d only just got it!
