I’m not sure why but I always used to think Entomology was the study of moths but over the many years I have been with my Polish partner I’ve sometimes had to really dig into the meaning of words and think about words in a different way. So these are my musings on some of the terminology used in my business.
Livestreaming
There’s some debate about this word. “Live streaming”, “live-streaming”, “streaming live” all valid. I use the term “livestreaming” to describe the service offered being a service to stream video of a live event.
Livestreaming vs Broadcasting
Some say… that these terms are identical, however I think it’s useful to differentiate between broadcasting over the airwaves and livestreaming over networks, essentially the Internet. The main difference here is that broadcasting just “throws it out there” with no direct knowledge of any receiving equipment whereas all streaming has identifiable unique receiving endpoints.
Tangential Marketing
I thought that I’d invented this term but whilst it’s fairly uncommon when I searched for it while writing this post it turns out there were others who had already coined it. What I mean by the term is to market something without directly marketing something. In our case, by telling a great story about your client rather than yourselves. In fact in some cases you may not feature in the piece very much at all, but that’s OK. Why, because it’s not really about you, it’s about what you enable others to do because of you.
